Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Single Shot Rifle

     Here is an attractive Winchester model 1885 High Wall single shot rifle in 30 U.S.(30-40 Krag) caliber with a 30" long number 3 weight round nickel steel barrel with a bright, near excellent bore. This rifle has serial number 96196 and was manufactured circa 1903. The barrel retains 95% original blue finish with a few scattered cleaned spots of rust ahead of the forearm. The receiver retains 85% original blue finish with the balance exhibiting a pleasing brown patina. The finger lever, breech block and hammer exhibit a grayish brown patina with good traces of original case colors in their protected areas. The straight grip walnut butt stock with hard rubber shotgun style butt plate  and forearm with ebony tip rate near excellent except for an inletted long range peep sight base on the top of the comb just ahead of the widow's peak of the butt plate. The front sight dovetail is empty and the rear sight dovetail contains a slot blank. Two scope mounting blocks have been added to the rear of the barrel. A period sling eye is attached to the belly of the barrel. Mechanically, this rifle functions perfectly.  {C&R}   (see photos)
