Winchester Third Model 1876 Rifle in 45-75 Caliber

Here is a very nice example of a Winchester Third model 1876 lever action rifle in 45-75 caliber with a 28" long round barrel having a better than average bore being bright, showing strong rifling and having only a few specks of pitting ahead of the chamber. The serial number is 58007 which places manufacture circa 1885. The barrel retains perhaps 80% thinning original blue finish blending with the balance as a brown patina. The full length tubular magazine and receiver exhibit a pleasing brown patina with strong original blue finish in their protected areas. The loading gate retains some strong original fire blue finish in protected areas. The hammer has a mottled grayish patina with visible but mellowed case colors on the side flats. The lever, dust cover and butt plate are mostly a brown patina with some specks of older rust present. The butt plate does have the sliding trap door of brass which exhibits an untouched ochre color as does the brass cartridge lifter. The walnut butt stock and forearm rate very good to near excellent with over 70% original finish remaining and very minor but honest wear present. The barrel supports an original nickel silver blade front sight and a No. 42A series sporting rear sight. All printing is clear and fully legible. Mechanically, this rifle functions perfectly. A nice and honest large caliber lever action rifle that has seen minimal use over the past 135 years.  {Antique}
