History: The Winchester Repeating Arms Company introduced the model 55 in 1924 as a variation of their popular model 1894 rifle. The model 55 had its own serial number range in the beginning and ended at about 2865 when it was merged with the serial numbers of the model 1894. The model 55 featured a fluted comb style walnut butt stock with serrated steel butt plate, shorter magazine tube holding approximately 3 rounds and was offered in both takedown and solid frame variations. It was discontinued in 1932 having produced about 20,500 rifles with its primary competitor being the model 1894.
