Savage Arms Company introduced the Sporter model 22 bolt action rifle in 1922 and produced 25,000 rimfire rifles the first and only year this model was manufactured. The factory quickly realized that there new rimfire rifle needed many mechanical improvements and they decided to change the model at the same time. The Sporter model 22 rifle was replaced in 1923 with the Sporter model 23A. Parts for the Sporter model 23A rifle can be found elsewhere on this web site.
