Winchester Model 74 Semi-Auto Rimfire Rifles: (1939 - 1955) Click Here To See - Close Up Image of Post War Rifle
Winchester introduced the model 74 semi-auto rimfire rifle in 1939 in the 22 Short caliber only. The very next year, 1940, the 22 LR caliber was offered as a second option. The 22 LR caliber was the more popular choice and resulted in the 22 Short version being discontinued by 1952. There are some small changes to this rifle over the 16 years it was manufactured which can be seen between the pre war and post war models. The rifle was discontinued in 1955 and its replacement was the model 77 rifle in both tubular and detachable box magazine variations.
