Colt manufactured the Challenger pistol starting in 1950 as an affordable plinking variation of their popular Woodsman target pistol. The Challenger was manufactured with a 4 1/2" or 6" barrel, fixed sights and plastic grips. There are some 77,000 of these pistols manufactured before it was discontinued in 1955. The Huntsman pistol was its replacement from 1955 forward.
