This Springfield Armory manufactured first variation ramrod stop is stamped "Pat. / Aug.16 / 1870." on the rear round boss and is for the model 1873 trapdoor rifle. This ramrod stop is in very good condition exhibiting mixture of original blue finish with a brown patina and having some rust.  (file photo)

Note: The thought among collectors is that any ramrod stop in a trapdoor rifle manufactured before 1880 would have the first variation ramrod stop with the patent markings.
