This Springfield Armory manufactured lower barrel band with scalloped notch to accomodate the Buffington style rear sight is for the model 1873 trapdoor rifle and carbine in 45-70 Govt. caliber and is in very good condition exhibiting a mixture of grayish brown patina with possibly some traces of original blue finish and specks of rust.  (file photo)

Note: Trapdoor rifles and carbines manufactured in late 1885 with serial numbers circa 294,000 or higher would have used this barrel band if equipped with the Buffington style rear sight.
