This Springfield Armory manufactured lock plate is for the model 1868 trapdoor rifle and is in very good condition exhibiting a grayish brown patina and traces of blue finish and some specks of rust and/or pitting. This lock plate is stamped "1863" at the rear section and "U.S. / Springfield" at the forward section along with the eagle with spread wings clutching arrows and an olive branch.
