This Springfield Armory manufactured standard variation rifle butt plate without the reinforcing band across the back side of the lower mounting hole and recessed backing is for the full length model 1873 Trapdoor rifle and is in very good condition exhibiting a grayish brown patina and some specks of rust and / or pitting. This butt plate is stamped "US" forward of the mounting screw hole on the heel extension. (file photo)
