This Western Cartridge Co. manufactured yellow, blue and red cardboard box contains 48 of the original 50 rounds of Super-X lubricated 22 LR ammunition with nickel cases and copper washed bullets and is in about good condition with wear, fading and dirt smudges. The right end flap is missing from the box and the left end flap has detached but is held in place with two strips of clear tape on the outside of the box. This box is overstamped "LUBRICATED" on the top line of the blue rectangle surrounding the printing on the front panel. The bottom of the box displays "©w.c.co." in the upper left corner, "Western" in red letters on the left half of the panel, four patent numbers, and the address line reading "WESTERN CARTRIDGE CO., East Alton, Ill., U.S.A.". This box displays thumb cuts on both ends of the box. There is no printing on the top portion of the left end flap and this box does NOT display a product code. The cardboard ammo tray has a 1/2" split down one corner. The nickel casings display the "SU-1" headstamp and the bullets have a moderate coating of verdigris.

Date of Manufacture: This style box was introduced in 1931 and was produced until 1935.

Note: This box is similar to the Huegel # WCC-6A LR-1 variation. The differences observed are that this box is overstamped "LUBRICATED" on the top edge of the front panel, uses blue printing as opposed to black, does not match all of the printing or alignment of the words on Huegel's sample "A" bottom photo, and lists only four patents on the bottom.

This box is similar to LR-5 in Huegel's Super-X Checklist. The only difference observed is that this box is overstamped "LUBRICATED" on the top line of the blue rectangle surrounding the printing on the front panel.
