This Winchester Repeating Arms Co. manufactured blue, white and red cardboard box with the blue shaded shield design contains 34 rounds of Staynless 22 Automatic ammunition with brass cases. We believe that the ammunition in this box is incorrect as it should contain copper cases to be period correct. This box is in rough condition and is in several pieces (please see photos). The top panel is in two pieces and is detached from the rest of the box. The bottom panel and both side panels are attached to each other, though there is a 2" split running down the seam between the back and bottom panels. The right end flap is held in place by a piece of clear tape fixed to the inside of the box. A piece of tape used to hold the left end flap in like manner, but only the tape now remains. The left end flap, though detached, is present in two pieces. The ammo tray also shows some wear with one of the bottom edges split open. This box displays a thumb cut on the right end of the box. "TRADE MARK" is printed underneath "WINCHESTER" on the top panel. The product code "K 2278 R" is printed on the back panel. There is NO distance warning on the end flaps. The brass casings display the "H-10" headstamp and have specks of tarnish present.

Date of Manufacture: This style box was introduced in 1927 and was produced until circa 1937.

Note: This box is the Huegel # WRA-12A WA-1 variation. This box displays the shaded shield design and "TRADE MARK" printed underneath "WINCHESTER". There is NO distance warning on the end flaps.

Date Codes Observed on This Box: 3122 (written in pencil inside the left end flap sometime before the tape was added)
