This Western Cartridge Company manufactured yellow, blue and red cardboard box contains 44 of the original 50 rounds of Super-X long range 22 W.R.F. (Rem. Spl.) ammunition with nickel cases and copper washed bullets and is in about good condition with moderate wear, dirt staining, and a few small spots where the colorful layer of paper is missing. The right end flap has been separated from the box, taking a portion of the top layers of cardboard from the bottom panel with it. The right end flap and one of the inner end flaps are missing. The other inner end flap is present but detached. This box displays a top hinged left end flap. The product code "K1234R" is printed in the lower right corner of the front panel. The bottom of the box displays "Made in U.S.A." in the upper right corner, ten patent numbers, and the ownership lines "WESTERN CARTRIDGE COMPANY, East Alton, Ill., U. S. A. / Division of OLIN INDUSTRIES, INC.". The end flap warning reads "RANGE / 1 MILE / BE CAREFUL" and "11-BN" is printed on the front hinged, inner end flap on the left end of the box. The cardboard ammo tray has a 1/2" tear at each end, likely caused by tugging on it to remove the tray from the box. The nickel casings display the "SU-1" headstamp and have a few specks of light tarnish present. The bullets have some oxidation present.
Date of Manufacture: This style box was introduced in 1947 and was produced until 1953.
Note: This box is similar to the Huegel # WCC-8 WRF-1(a) variation. The differences observed are that this box displays blue printing as opposed to black and the bottom of the box does not match Huegel's sample photo. The bottom of this box displays "Made in U.S.A." in the upper right corner, ten patent numbers, the registration line "TRADE-MARKS REG. U. S. PAT. OFF. AND OTHER COUNTRIES M. R. MARQUE DEPOSEE", and the ownership lines "WESTERN CARTRIDGE COMPANY, East Alton, Ill., U. S. A. / Division of OLIN INDUSTRIES, INC.".
This box is similar to WRF-13 in Huegel's Super-X Checklist. The difference observed is that this box displays a red dot on the left end flap after the words "LONG RANGE".
