This Union Metallic Cartridge Co. manufactured two piece, split top, green cardboard box with red top label, orange bottom label, and red side sealing band contains all 50 rounds of 22 Short ammunition with copper cases and swagged bullets and is in very good condition with light to moderate wear and dirt smudging. The top label displays a black "U" inside of a circle and the arched company name "THE UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO.", There is NO dash between RIM and FIRE on the top label. The front of the side sealing band states "WARRANTED TO FIT / and guaranteed superior to / any on the market. / The U. M. C. CO." and the back side of the band contains 4 lines of information starting with the word "Manufactured". The bottom label displays a "4" in the upper left corner, the word "GUARANTEE." above six lines of information, and the company name. The copper casings display the "U-3" headstamp and have a light coating of tarnish present.

Date of Manufacture: This style box was probably introduced in the late 1890's.

Note: This box is similar to the Huegel # UMC-8 S-3.1 variation. This box displays the side labels 3 (with a slight layout change) and 4 and the #8 style bottom label.
