Here is a U.S. M1 30 caliber carbine manufactured by Underwood with serial #2761390 on the receiver. The "Underwood 11 43" marked barrel has a large "P" firing proof mark and a bright, very good bore. The two rivet shallow groove handguard is stamped "P-U" on the underside and rates very good to near excellent. The high wood pistol grip walnut stock with a faint "UEF / GHD" stamping on the right side surrounded by a thin line border and a faint ordnance wheel to its right. There is a large flat circular spot to the left ofstamping which was caused by a previous owner for some unknown reason. The left side sling cut is stamped "P-U" and the end of the pistol grip is stamped with a "K" and a "P" within a circular border (see photo). This stock is in very good condition accept for a 6" long with the grain crack on the right side of the forearm section. This carbine has a type B push button safety, ".O. .U." stamped within a circular border type C operating slide, "AU" stamped type B magazine release, type A front band with the wide swivel aperture, type C recoil plate stamped ".U" on the right side, type B stamped trigger housing, a ".U." stamped type C hammer and a Type A non adjustable rear sight stamped "S" on the left side and blank on the right side. The front sight is stamped ".U.". The metal surfaces exhibit a mixture of its greenish military finish with honest light wear and a soft brownish gray patina. Mechanically, this carbine functions perfectly. This carbine includes a 15 round magazine which retains a regular blue finish, cloth sling and oiler.
