U.S. Model 1805 Flintlock Pistol by Harper's Ferry
Here is a United States model 1805 flintlock pistol by Harper's Ferry serial #2000, 54 caliber smooth bore, 10 1/16" round barrel with a good bore. This pistol has an oval "US" and an oval "(eagle head / P" proof mark on the barrel which are both still quite visible though well worn. The lock plate assembly has the verticle marking of "Harper's / Ferry / 1808" behind the hammer and the "(spread eagle with shield) / US" ahead of the hammer. The markings on the lock plate are of an acid etched process and when one looks at the pan, the only conclusion is an aged modern manufactured lock plate with period original parts. The touch hole does not show any indicators of a re-conversion. The front sight is not of brasslike the originals but otherwise it looks great. The brass hardware has been cleaned many years ago and now has an ochre patina to it. The walnut stock with partially visible inspector's marking rates very good with the expected dings, handling marks and a crack ahead of the brass trigger guard. The right side raised portion above the lock plate has been spliced with another piece of walnut and matches quite well. The wood ramrod with swelled tip is a more recent replacement. Mechanically, this piece functions as it should. A nice representative example that has seen some help. {Antique}
