Whitney No. 2 Single Shot Sporting Rifle in 38 Caliber - Antique

This Whitney No. 2 single shot sporting rifle was originally in 38 rimfire caliber but it has at some point in time been professionally converted to a centerfire caliber. The rifle has a 30" long octagon barrel, serial number 73903 and the metal surfaces exhibit a mottled dark grayish brown patina. All of the printing is clear and fully legible. The oil finished straight grip walnut butt stock and forearm with an ebony schnabel style tip rate very good with light dings and handling marks. Mechanically, the rifle appears to function perfectly. The front sight and elevator for the rear sight are missing. The bore is bright and rifling appears worn but visible with some specks of pitting present. A nice solid representative example of Whitneys sporting rifle.  {Antique}
